Keep your blonde vibrant and healthy
How To Take Care Of Your Blonde
While we are obsessed with being blonde, caring for it can be a real drag. Not only can natural elements like water and sunlight make your colour fade and appear brassy, but over styling and processing your hair can also leave your hair dry, prone to breakage and damaged.
But we are going to give you the need-to-know tips and tricks to keeping that perfect blonde shade and keeping your hair healthy and full of life.
1 - HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE!
To get that perfect shade of blonde, we put our hair through A LOT.
Bleaching or lifting dark shades from hair can be a very harsh process that strips hair of oils and nutrients our cuticle have inside. Thus leaving hair dry, stretchy and brittle.
Processed hair needs a lot of taking care of, especially when restoring any damage done. To help bring dry brittle hair back to life, it is vital to invest in a good leave-in conditioner and/or deep repair mask.
Deep treatments or hair masks are an amazing way to restore moisture that has been stripped from the hair during the colouring process. Although you cannot undo the damage done in one step, deep conditioning treatments are a key factor for colour treated hair, and are a great way to help prevent more breakage.
2 - the less heat the better
Lifting colour to get that lighter blonde shade results in your hair cuticle being stripped and once that happens it makes it hard for hair to hold onto the nutrients the scalp produces. Thus leaving hair dry and brittle. Adding an excessive amount of heat styling to your hair, on top of the chemical process, can really damage and dull your shine. But, if you are applying heat, always use a heat protectant.
3 - Avoid too much sunlight
Overexposure to the sun is not only damaging for skin, but blonde hair. Harmful UV rays can dry out hair, and turn beautiful blonde shades a brassy shade of orange. So, when in the sun, wear a hat.
4 - purple shampoo is your best friend
To help colour last and look fresh, invest in a good purple shampoo and blonde haircare. Specially formulated shampoo and haircare is a great way to fight brassy tones and leave hair looking like its just been done.
To keep your blonde vibrent, wash hair with purple shampoo at least once a week, alternating shampoos throughout the week. If you find that your hair is super brassy, or becomes yellow fairly quickly, try increase the amount used. If you find that your hair is becoming too ashy, try decreasing how frequent you use the shampoo.
You can also adjust how much you tone your hair by how long you leave your shampoo in for. For example: if your hair is really brassy, leave the shampoo in hair for 5 minutes; for very little brass: leave for 2 minutes.
REMEMBER: Purple shampoos are not designed to clean hair, so follow up with a good shampoo.
5 - Find a good shampoo and conditioner
Shampoos that have sulfates are a no-go when it comes to picking a shampoo. The most common of these are SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) and SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) that are used in a lot of shampoos to help you get that big lather, but those big lathers are only doing harm. So, make sure you’re reading your labels closely whenever you pick out your shampoo.
Alongside shampoo, a good conditioner helps replenish the moisture in hair and keeps it from looking stringy and giveing it a fresh, and shiny look and feel. Your conditioner, as well as the once-a-week deep conditioner or mask, is an essential part of this process.
Also, buy a shampoo and conditioner that aligns with your hair wants and needs.
